Mystery player: how to win in fewer guesses

A method to choose your first guess and use every color and arrow as a clue until you reach today's pro player.

First guess: a “middle” player

The answer is always someone with an HLTV Top 20 appearance or a Major title. So the best opener is a European player with 1 to 3 Majors and several Top 20 years, like ropz: the Majors and Top 20 arrows immediately say whether the mystery player has more or fewer titles, and the region splits Europe, CIS, the Americas and Asia.

Use the arrows like a binary search

If the Majors arrow points up after a guess with 1 title, the mystery player has 2 or more: that leaves only a few dozen names. Do the same with Top 20 years, always picking a guess that cuts the options in half.

Yellow on the team is gold

A yellow team means the mystery player once played for that team but no longer does. Think of players who left that roster in recent years and cross them with country and role.

Region and country go together

Green region with a grey country means another country in the same region. In Europe that is still broad; in smaller regions like South America or Asia, very few candidates remain.

Save your last guesses for complete matches

After 3 misses you get one of the player's former teams as a hint. From then on, only guess names that fit every green and yellow clue you've seen: each inconsistent guess is a wasted chance.
